Day 15 – Oneness

February 14, 2011

Dear Unified Follower of Christ;

Unity is like the key that unlocks the anointing in our midst.  It is the power ingredient that causes His life to be infused in us and seen through us.  The anointing makes available the grace and power of heaven to impact our lives on earth.

Experiencing the anointing in our life on a daily basis is something you and I can have. But having it requires that we align our hearts, our minds and our wills to His ways.  The Apostle Paul gives us more insight to this thing called unity.

1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose . 3Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Philippians 2:1-5 (NASB)

If you and I are going to walk in a greater anointing individually and corporately, we will have to understand the importance of being of the same mind, maintaining the same love.  I am not saying we will all share the same opinion, but we must have the same focus; “Knowing Him and Making Him Known.”

Paul further communicates that once we have our minds and emotions aligned, we must also align them with our spirits so we can become united.  That takes place when we are individually and corporately “intent on one purpose”.  Paul then tells us the steps to live by, to enable us to achieve this great task.
He says:

  • Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit,
  • But with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
  • Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

How is it possible for humans to live this way?  Well, Paul is right there to show us the “how”.

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,  who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant.

Phil 2:5-7

We are called to take on the attitude of Christ, the attitude of humility (the absence of pride driven motives, actions or thoughts), and empty ourselves from our selfish ambition, greed, fear and inordinate longings, and become servants by choice, willing to serve one another as unto the Lord, willing to serve the Lord on His terms. When we do, and to the degree we do, we will be a people united and intent on one purpose and our world will benefit from the residual results of lives flowing in an anointing.

20 my old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20 (NLT)

Heavenly Father; forgive me when my attitude has not reflected your character and nature.  Forgive me when I have been more self focused.  Help me to live beyond myself and my needs or wants.  Thank you for the redemptive work of the Cross.  I desire to decrease that you might increase.  Show me your ways and strengthen me to live in a manner that unites me and others to you and your purposes.
