In God We Still Trust – Day 4

September 4, 2012

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

2 Corinthians 3:17

Webster’s defines liberty as the quality or state of being free:

  • freedom from arbitrary or despotic control:
  • the power of choice.
  • It is also described as a privilege: permission especially to go freely within specified limits.

True freedom comes when we freely live within the specified limits of that which is good and godly.  Let us pray today that we become a people of true liberty.  A people who have arisen from the despotic control of sin and have chosen the liberty purchased for us by the Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the liberty you have granted to us through the shed Blood of your Son and our Lord; a liberty that has made us free; truly free from the tyranny of sin and its self serving ways.  We thank you for a liberty that grants us the power to choose.  Help us to be a people who use our liberties wisely.  In this hour raise a people who will honor the liberty they possess as a privilege and not just a right.  Forgive us of our choices that have reduced liberty to fleshly pursuits instead of the pursuit of virtue.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Galatians 5:1, 13

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” John Adams
