In God We Still Trust – Day 2
August 27, 2012If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?
Psalms 11:3 (NKJV)
Our dangers are of two kinds, those which affect our religion, and those which affect our government. They are, however, so closely allied that they cannot, with propriety, be separated…
To the kindly influence of Christiainity we owe that degree of civil freedom, and political and social happiness which mankind now enjoy. In proportion as the genuine effects of Christianity are diminished in any nation, either through unbelief, or the corruption of its doctrines, or the neglect of its institutions; in the same proportion will the people of that nation recede from the blessings of genuine freedom, and approximate the miseries of complete despotism. .. It follows, that all efforts made to destroy the foundations of our holy religion, ultimately tend to the subversion also of our political freedom and happiness. Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republican forms of government, and all the blessings which flow from them, must fall with them..
Dr. Jedidiah Morse, April 25, 1799
Heavenly Father, we humbly come before you and ask for your healing grace to prevail upon our land. Ignite a fire within your people to take a stand for righteousness in this critical hour. Forgive us of our apathy and complaceny toward spiritual things. Remove the scales from our eyes and put in our hearts a lasting passion for you.
“I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, For My anger has turned away from him.
Hosea 14:4
