Full Assurance In The Heart – Day 9

April 26, 2011

He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is firmly fixed, trusting (leaning on and being confident) in the Lord.

Psalms 112:7

Trust is the key to overcoming the fears of life. Trust in God gives us a confidence that provides stability and security in times of trouble.  King David declares his heart is firmly “fixed,” trusting in the Lord, which denotes a decision and not a feeling

To be “fixed” means to stand straight and established in strength.  One is fixed through preparation that makes one ready.  It is not a magical formula, but a commitment to self-prepare and self commit and then stand strong in one’s decision.  The word “fixed” denotes making one firm and faithful, while rendering one prosperous when they are established in the proper direction.  When we place our trust in a God, who has proven Himself, faithful and true, we are made solid and immovable even in challenging times.

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.

Psalms 125:1

To grow great faith, one must make a decision to trust in God who is trustworthy.  Our lack of trust causes an environment for doubt.  “When we doubt, we will do without.”

6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

James 1:6-7

James is saying, when we have not “fixed” our trust in the faithfulness of God, our fear takes over and throws us around like the waves of the sea.  This doubt creates divided loyalties and destabilizes us in the storms of life.

As you forge ahead, make an investment of time and energy to grow great trust, by establishing yourself in the truth of God’s Word.  Then commit to trust with a “full assurance in the heart,” by remaining “fixed” in Him in times of trouble and watch how stable your life will become even when things around you are experiencing great change.

8 I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.  9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope.

Psalms 16:8-9
