Full Assurance In The Heart – Day 40
May 30, 201110 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. 11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
Psalms 32:10-11
King David discovered that the love of God was more than just a feeling or an emotion. But it is a powerful force that is demonstrated by God’s generous acts of mercy toward us. In Psalm 32, David first discloses the impact when we hide our sin, and then reveals the liberty and healing and forgiving grace of God that is released when one confesses their sin to a God who is rich in mercy.
The word mercy means a benevolent mildness or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves; it is a love that shows compassion and it is only exercised toward offenders. There is perhaps no word in our language this is synonymous with mercy. The word that comes closest to it is “grace.” Mercy is a distinguishing attribute of God.
David tells us when we place our confidence in the Lord, we will be surrounded by God’s unfailing love that shows compassion toward us and this love releases a tender forgiving force in our lives. We can then rejoice, for God’s love is a love that cannot fail, and that is why many times in scripture mercy is also translated unfailing love. But what’s even more amazing is that God’ unfailing in nature, is also unending in its supply.
22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23
As you forge ahead today, have full assurance in the heart that God’s love is available for you in full supply, because His mercy is new every morning and His faithfulness is ever great!
