Full Assurance In The Heart – Day 34

May 23, 2011

28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

Matthew 14:28-29

What would cause Peter to step out and do what he had never done before? What did Peter possess that allowed him to do take such a step of faith? Peter possessed a trust in the integrity of the “word” of the Lord.  It was Peter’s daily walk with the “Living Word” (Jesus) that gave substance to his faith so he could readily respond to Jesus’ word in the midst of the storm.

The day when the disciples had encountered this storm, they had just been with Jesus, they saw firsthand the evidence of the integrity of God’s Word to his people. Jesus had fed the 5,000 with just 5 loaves and 2 fishes by merely speaking a word of blessing over it. The disciples heard the words of Jesus and saw the life it brought to those who heard them. They witnessed the people being healed from their infirmities by the power of His Word. The disciple John put it like this:

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the “One and Only” who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

Peter’s encounter with integrity of Jesus words in the day, served to enforce his confident steps in response to God’s word in the night. Peter grew to trust that God’s word could be counted on even in the storms of life.

As you forge ahead today with full assurance in the heart, remember, it is your daily exposure to the living word that will grow great faith. But it is the steps you take to respond to His Words in the storms of life, that proves your faith in Him.

For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does.

Psalms 33:4
