Full Assurance In The Heart – Day 31

May 19, 2011

And it will become a sign and a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the Lord because of oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Champion, and He will deliver them.

Isaiah 19:20

Even at a young age, David’s confidence and faith in God was strong.  In 1Samuels 17, the armies of Israel were being challenged by the Philistines. The mighty men of valor stood intimidated by the force that encompassed them.  But what seemed to paralyze them was the formidable weapon in the form of a giant named Goliath; the champion of the armies of the Philistines.

Then a champion came out from the armies of the Philistines named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
1 Samuel 17:3

Then David, who came to deliver provisions to his brothers, began to question what could it be that would cause the armies of Israel to cower in such fear.  They all declared the reputation of Goliath the champion of the armies of the Philistines.

The word “champion” means: a man between the two, a go between a challenger; a mighty man

But David in his youth understood who the real “Champion” was; and began to declare the greatness of his God.  Because David knew his God was the Mighty One whose presence came between he and his enemies time and again.

And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” …

1 Samuel 17:37

It is true that your enemy may have a reputation, but he is not the “Champion of the Hosts.”  Jesus the Christ is the One who stands “between the two” and challenged the forces of darkness and defeated him once and for all, on your behalf.   He is our Mighty Man; our Champion.  When you place your confidence in Him in the day of the battle you will prevail against your giants and win.

Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

1 Samuel 17:51
