May 18, 2011
[38] Then Saul clothed David with his garments and put a bronze helmet on his head, and he clothed him with armor. [39] And David girded his sword over his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested (proved) them. So David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them.” And David took them 0ff.I Samuel 17:37-39
The past few days we have been utilizing the story of David and Goliath to help us understand the power of the proven Word of God in our life. The proven Word are the nuggets (rocks of Truth) that have been revealed to us and have been proven through life’s troubled waters. These truths then become the smooth stones that take down our enemy in the day of trouble.
David, understood that you can’t win the fight against your enemy with another man’s sword, or you can say it like this; you can’t win with another man’s word.
Saul wanted David to use his sword. But David couldn’t, he said, I can’t go into battle with your weapons; they have not been proven in my life. You can’t fight with another man’s weapon another man’s revelation. You have to fight with your own weapon; that weapon is the truth you have come to know as true and sure.
Each of us can be motivated and inspired by another man’s word; but until the word becomes our revelation that has been smoothed (proven) in our life, it’s not our stone. It’s not our weapon against Goliath. It’s another man’s weapon.
Even as a very young man, David possessed 5 smooth stones in his life. He drew these from the brook, the place of living water, the place where these truths had been proven. These smooth stones represented the confident understanding of who God is and what God can do. David understood these truths about his God:
- God was his Champion
- That there was no God like his God
- That the battle belongs to the Lord
- God was his refuge and fortress in the day of trouble
- God is the one who brings increase and reward in his life.
It is the proven word in your life that will slay your enemy. What are the truths that have been proven in your life? These are your weapons in the day of trouble.
Remember that as you forge ahead in trustful hope, it is the proven word in your life that will bring Full Assurance In The Heart. It is the proven word that becomes your weapon against the giants you face. Continue to encourage one another with the truths you know, but be sure you go into battle with your sword and not another’s.
