Full Assurance In The Heart – Day 3

April 20, 2011

 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

Psalms 34:8

Many times, when reading God’s Word, we see analogies made to spark a deeper understanding of what is being said.  In Psalms 34:8, the Psalmist says “taste” and “see” that God is “good.”   For a moment reflect on something you have tasted in times past and thought; “that was good.”  The impact on your senses that you determined as good brought great pleasure, comfort and delight; sometimes even beyond our own words.

Just like our natural senses, we have spiritual senses. When we taste God, we discover a whole new meaning of good.  What is “good?”  How does the Bible define this concept of “good?”

The Noah Webster dictionary describes “good” in this manner:

Valid; legally firm; not defective; having strength that is adequate to its support

Not weak or false; sound, uncorrupted, morally sound; wholesome; complete or sufficiently perfect in its kind; suited to strengthen or assist the healthful functions

Pleasant; valuable; adequate, competent; kind, affectionate, faithful, merciful; gracious, cheerful; promotive of happiness; pleasant or prosperous;

Honorable; benevolent, elegant, brave, companionable, great, real

I was so surprised at the more than 40 different adjectives used to describe “good.”  I never knew “good” could be so … good!  It has compelled me to change how I will use this word going forward!  It also gave me greater insight to what Jesus was saying in the book of Luke.

 Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? Only God is good.

Luke 18:19

Only God is truly the fullness of what good is!   If we are going to experience the “good” life then it will be a life filled with God and all that a good God represents.

The psalmist is inviting us to have an encounter with God that will impact our senses.  And its impact will be so valid, real and incorruptibly sound that our trust will soar to new heights and release the blessing of God in our lives.

How do we taste and see?  Begin by asking Him to reveal Himself to you in a greater way today; and as you do, you will begin to experience Him in your life (taste).   Then look into the pages of His Word (see) for His many attributes and discover the goodness of God that brings real change in your life.  The fruit of this encounter will grow greater trust in Him, and your trust will release the benefit of a blessed life.

Forge ahead with Full Assurance In The Heart, tasting and seeing that God is good.  His goodness pursues you to empower, transform and bless you, as you place your trust in Him.

6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalms 23:6
