Full Assurance in the Heart – Day 28May 16, 2011
And he took his stick in his hand and chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag which he had, … I Samuel 17:40
Then it happened when the Philistine rose and came and drew near to meet David, that David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand into his bag and took from it a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead. And the stone sank into his forehead, so that he fell on his face to the ground.
I Samuel 17:48-49
The smooth stone that took out Goliath represented the proven truths in David’s life. Just as natural stones become smooth by the refining process of water washing over it. The truths that David knew about His God were truths that had been proven time and again in his life. And these proven truths became the weapon that David used against his enemy.
And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”
I Samuel 17: 37
David developed a deep trust in God, even as a young boy. His trust was developed in the seasons of challenge, were the “rubber meets the road.” David discovered that not only is God able, but God is faithful. These opportunities caused David to became so confident in his God that even when the fiercest of giants would challenge him, he knew it was no match for the power of his God.
What truths have been proven in your life? Where has God been shown faithful time and again? These truths are your smooth stones that become your weapon that will take down your enemy.
Forge ahead with full assurance in the heart because even if you are young in your faith, all you need is one smooth stone to defeat the Goliaths that would taunt you.
