Full Assurance In The Heart – Day 12April 29, 2011
14 After the victory, the Lord instructed Moses, “Write this down on a scroll as a permanent reminder, and read it aloud to Joshua: I will erase the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-nissi (which means “the Lord is my banner”).
Jehovahnissi is revealed in Exodus when the children of Israel faced the battle against the giants of the land. There they discovered the strength of their God to go before them and be with them to secure their victory. The giants represented the opposing forces that would wage war against God’s own to keep them from their divine destiny.
The greatest battle we will face is the war between our spirit and soul; the carnal man who lives in the darkness of sin and selfish pursuits, warring against the spirit man who is born of the light and hungers for what is true and right. The Apostle Paul communicates this battle ever so clearly in Romans.
21 I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. 22 I love God’s law with all my heart. 23 But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. 24 Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord…
Paul reveals our answer to this battle over the giants within; our answer is in Christ Jesus our Jehovahnissi; the One who waged war against our giants and secured the victory for us upon the Cross.
But God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners.
As you forge ahead this day, do so with full assurance in the heart, as you have a God, who has gone before you as the Lord your Banner and has defeated the giants that would keep you from your destiny. Always remember it is His great love and desire for you that compelled Him to wage war and win!
“He has brought me to his banquet hall, And his banner over me is love.
