Forsaking All I Trust Him – Day 27
August 12, 2011There are some things we have to forsake that will otherwise hinder and block us from fully trusting God. It is impossible to trust God while dwelling on the wrong things. We must choose to forsake imaginations and thoughts that oppose the truth that God can be trusted.
The children of Israel were most vulnerable to wander from God when things were going well, they were fat, and had no problems or predators opposing them. It was then that their minds and hearts had no place to go in the future so they returned to their former thoughts and imaginations. When trouble resulted they returned to their former gods.
When I have brought them to the land flowing with milk and honey, of which I swore to their fathers, and they have eaten and filled themselves and grown fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them; and they will provoke Me and break My covenant.
Duet. 31:20
And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are befallen them, that this song will testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed; I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I sware.
Duet. 31:21
God knows our thoughts and imaginations and the power that they have over us. If we don’t forsake wrong thoughts and imaginations we will ultimately forsake our trust and covenant with God.
Evil imaginations are the measure of what’s to come and it can provoke the judgment of God as well as make Him regret creating man according to Genesis 6:5-7. Our imagination is neutral like a field and as a farmer chooses what will grow there we must also choose.
Will we dwell there in the light of His truth or in the darkness of evil and deceit? This is the field where the true battle takes place. Our actions ultimately flow out of our imaginations and thoughts. The battle is not with our physical actions and how we can change them. The battle is in that place where our actions are rooted-in our thoughts and imaginations.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
2Co.10:4-5
We must not only cast down wrong imaginations and thoughts but we must also replace them with the right or “in theLight” thoughts and imaginations that will cultivate trust and faith in God. Ph.4:6-8 defines them as true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praise worthy.
Forsake the thoughts and imaginations that are trying to get your attention away from God today, and choose thoughts and imaginations that build trust Him today.
