Forsaking All I Trust Him – Day 2

June 29, 2011

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.  This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

Proverbs 3:5-8

At the approach of 2011, I was seeking the Lord regarding His Word for the year; His word was “Faith.”   People of faith are a people who Forge Ahead In Trustful Hope.  Those who forge ahead in faith have a Full Assurance In The Heart, because their confidence is in the integrity of God.  When you have full assurance, it is so easy to declare, Forsaking All I Trust Him.   (If you haven’t captured it yet, each of these phrases are acrostics for the word faith.)

In this next series of devotions, I want to focus on the qualities of those whose mantra is “Forsaking All I Trust Him.”  And, what better place to begin to discover these attributes as in the book of Proverbs.

We will begin by looking at the meaning of the word “forsake.” The word “forsake” means to renounce or turn away from entirely. People of great faith are a people who have made a decision to renounce and turn away from relying on their own wisdom and understanding as the navigating force in their life.   They are a people who have chosen to actively place their confidence in the Lord and in His word, trusting in the integrity of their God.

But it also interesting to note that people of faith are not just people who have chosen to forsake something, they also have made a decision to embrace something.  To embrace something means to cherish or love; to readily take up something or make oneself available to it.

As we look into the word of God together in these coming days, I pray you will discover those things you need to renounce and turn away from, so that you will make yourself available and readily take up all that the Lord has prepared for you.

He must increase, but I must decrease.
