Forsaking All I Trust Him – Day 11

July 12, 2011

“Who touched me?” Jesus asked. Everyone denied it, and Peter said, “Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.” When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble and fell to her knees before him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed. “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”

Luke 8:45-48

This passage is from the story told of the woman who had an issue of blood for twelve years. She had pursued all the natural means available to her to find a cure and ended up broke discouraged and sick.   But then, she heard that Jesus was coming to town and how those who came into His presence were healed of their sickness.  So she pushed through the crowds to receive what she had been so desperate for and was made whole.

Now if you do not understand the religious culture of that day, you would not have understood the risk she took to receive.   A woman who had an issue of
blood was considered unclean.  Therefore as long as she remained in that condition, she was not to go out in public.  Anything she would touch would be considered unclean.   The act of deliberately doing such a thing would bring her under great judgment with consequence.  Therefore it was with great deliberation that she stepped out to touch Jesus. It was a decision that would ultimately require her to “forsake all” as she chose to trust Him; a decision that later Jesus called “faith”.  And as a result, she received more than what she came for!

So what did she have to forsake?

  • She had to forsake her religious view of God and embrace the Jesus who manifested the heart of God.
  • She had to forsake the disappointment and doubt over her past efforts to pursue her answer.
  • She had to forsake her fear of the consequences of men to receive the all the benefits of heaven.

Her faith was not established in her ability, her faith was established in the ability of God through His servant Jesus.   Her situation birthed desperation, but her decision to believe birthed a faith that moved her to action. And as a result, she got the attention of Jesus and received her health and her peace.

Are you willing to forsake the mindset of religion and world views  to pursue an approachable God?  Are you willing to forsake the disappointment of your past efforts to believe?  Are you willing to press through the crowd of fear until you touch the hem of His garment?  If you do, you will receive what you came for and so much more!
