Forging Ahead In Trustful Hope – Day 38April 15, 2011
“See, he is puffed up; his desires are not upright– but the righteous will live by his faith–
Habakkuk 2:4 (NIV)
As we reflect on the life of Jesus Christ, we see key decisions that He made as He walked the earth which will empower us to grow a faith that forges ahead and produces life.
- Decision # 1
If we are going to grow great faith, we must choose what we will live by. “What feeds us is what leads us.” It will either be the words of the world or the word of God.
3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”
- Decision # 2
If we are going to grow great faith, we must make a clear decision to trust what God has said and settle the issue of God’s integrity in our hearts; so that in the day of trouble we are proving our faith and not proving our God.
Jesus trusted in the integrity of the Father and therefore in His day of trouble he was not tempted to say. “God, if you are all they said you are; then prove it to me.”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “’He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” 7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
- Decision # 3
If we are going to grow great faith, then we must embrace a life of humility; A life that yields to the words, the will and the ways of God. When we do, our focus will become singular and our love for Him true.
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” 10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'”
As you are Forging Ahead In Trustful Hope, remember that your faith is proven in the daily tests of life. Humble yourself to the integrity of God, and place your confidence in His faithfulness, let His Word sustain you, and when the trial is over your life will release a power that brings heaven on earth. The decision is really yours.
