Day 38 – Evangelism

March 7, 2011

Dear Devoted Believer,

As devoted believers we should be proclaiming to others the good news of the grace and mercy we have received in our lives.  But for so many, they are reluctant to do so as they feel so unequipped to articulate in words what has taken place.  We have misunderstood the powerful impact that we who have encountered the Lord can have on others even when we do not have all the right words.

Every person who comes in contact with the living Savior is impacted beyond intellectual understanding or reasoning.  When you and I have encountered His grace and love it begins something in our life that goes beyond intellectual reasoning, it begins a transformation that impacts us in our mind, our will, our emotions and is often even seen in our physical expression, because what is born of the spirit begins to saturate our whole being. We have truly tasted and seen that God is good and that goodness is evidenced not only in our words, but in our countenance and the unspoken evidence is often more tangible to others than the multitude of things said.

8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

Psalms 34:8 (NIV)

As I pondered this passage, the Lord said, I did not say those who have fully digested of me,
I said those who have tasted and seen.  We a people who have tasted of the Lord and seen that He is good, are qualified to communicate this goodness to others.  In the book of John we see the woman at the well and her encounter with the Lord.   It was a brief encounter with a long lasting impact that was so evidenced in her that when she began to share it with others they gazed into her eyes and saw a woman who was changed.  She did not have the doctrines all down pat, she did not have her life fully manifesting the impact of her encounter, but she had tasted of His mercy, of His goodness and she was never the same again and all who saw her knew that she was not the same woman as she had tasted and seen that God was good and that goodness began to radiate beyond words.

39 And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all things that ever I did.

John 4:39 (ASV)

The demoniac, who had been so bound and abandoned by others as a homeless cause, encountered goodness and in that encounter, he was transformed  After this powerful meeting with Jesus, he did not want to leave Jesus side, but Jesus said, go home and tell your friends what God has done for you.  He did not say go home and show them all your knowledge of scripture, He said go home and tell them what God has done.   When he did many were impacted by the reality that he had tasted and seen God and in that encounter he was transformed, not the same man he use to be.

18 And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” 20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.

Mark 5:18-20 (NKJV)

We who have tasted and seen that God is good, are called to go home and tell those who know us that we have tasted of the goodness of God and in His mercy he reached down to us and drew us close to Him.  The essence of the testimony that the woman at the well gave was this; “I met a man who knew all that I did and was and loved me anyway!”  They were simple words that profoundly impacted the hearer as they saw the transformational impact in her eyes and in her life.

Go out into your world and begin to share what He has done for you and make them hungry for the same.  Do not allow what you cannot yet explain to keep you from telling what you have encountered and experienced.  Let others see the impact of your contact with the one who is Good.

Heavenly Father- Thank you for your gracious love, that has impacted my life in so many ways.  Give me the courage and the heart to simply share the Good News of what you have done for me.   Anoint me that they will be compelled by the evidence of what your love has done in my life.   In Jesus Name Amen
