Day 31 – Evangelism

February 28, 2011

Dear Fisher of Men,

17 Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

Mark 1:17 (NKJV)

This truly has been a journey that we have been on in these past few weeks. The Lord has been aligning, realigning areas of our hearts so we can more purely be devoted to Him.  In so many ways when He comes into our lives, He comes and makes simple what we have a way of complicating.

In this journey of transformation, we can sometimes have a hard time evaluating if we are making progress in our walk. As I pondered on this, I said Lord, how does one know if they are following you?

Is it the amount of word, we read?
Is it the hours of worship or the places I serve?
How can I know that I am following Him effectively?

I am always amazed when I am looking for a volume, full of answers that sometimes God just makes a statement.

17 Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

Mark 1:17 (NKJV)

If I am effectively following Jesus, I am becoming an effective fisher of men!  God is a fisherman, and He is fishing every day.  Fishing is a passion for Him.  He fishes for men.  If we are following Him, we will become as He is; “Fishers of Men.”  For most of us fishing is not a way of life, but in Biblical days, fishing was life sustaining.  God is not a vacation day fisherman.  He is a fisherman by trade, by passion and by pursuit. Fishermen don’t always smell good after a day with the fish, but people are sustained because of their work.  Fisherman are strategic, they must know when to fish, where to fish and how to fish.

Are you a strategic follower?  Do you know how to fish, and when to fish?  Are you fishing?  If you are you are following?

Father, Help us to be effective fishers of men.  Help us not to be a vacation day, occasional fisherman.   Help us to be passionate for what you are passionate about.  You care about the souls of men, help us to love men and be willing to get our hands dirty, so that others will be sustained. In Jesus Name; Amen
