Day 10 – Evangelism

February 9, 2011

Dear Kingdom Advancers;
Today is day 10 of our 40 day journey and our focus is “E” for Evangelism.  As I shared previously, this word means “the winning or revival of personal commitments to Christ”, and the Apostle Paul encourages Timothy in to make this a personal focus in his life.

1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.  3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist; fulfill your ministry.

2 Timothy 4:1-5 (NKJV)

The word “evangelist” is defined by Strong’s concordance to mean “one who preaches the Good News of the Gospel.  One who brings glad tidings.”  It also means “to declare, to bring to show” the good news of the gospel.

You and I are called to do the same; we are called to declare the good news to those around us. We are called to bring it to them, and not just wait till they come; we are also called to SHOW, which communicates living a life that demonstrates that we have been the receiver of Good News.

It is amazing to read the words of Paul as they are words that are relevant for the days we are living in. He was saying “Timothy” Preach the word and be ready for any opportunity, expected or unexpected opportunity. He reminded Timothy that the time is going to come when they will not endure sound doctrine and because of that they will turn away from truth and choose to live a lie, so don’t delay in spreading the good news.  He reminded Timothy to be watchful in all things, to be enduring, and to do the work of one who declares, brings and shows for the good news of the Gospel.

As you pray today, read this passage of scripture as if it was written directly to you. The opening phrase, says “I charge you”. Read that word YOU as if it was written directly to YOU” and take hold of the charge of this hour to be diligent to fulfill the mission that none will perish.

Heavenly Father, we humbly come in the name of Jesus and ask for a new awareness of the times we are living in, to enter into the hearts and minds of your people. Help us to focus on what is eternally important. Help us to not only share the good news, but help us to show it forth in our lifestyle. Help us to bring it to the people and not just wait till they show up at our door. Help us to be a people who present the whole truth; a truth that will align us and refine us as it reminds us of the love of God toward us.

Father, we also pray for those whom the enemy has targeted to deceive and to hinder them from walking according to your word.  We break the spirit of pride and deception that allows us to embrace a lie over the truth.  Help us to be watchful in all things. Help us to be an enduring people, not prone to quit easily. Help us to obey you as we do the work of an evangelist and fulfill the work you have entrusted us with. In Jesus Name we pray; Amen.

“The hour is short, and the people are many.”
