E100 Devotional – Day 8

E100 Reading: Genesis 21:1-22:19

Isaac was born of the Word spoken by God. It was impossible and God did the impossible by His spoken Word! The Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken. They weren’t laughing at Abraham and Sarah but they were laughing with them. Can you imagine a 100 year old man having his first child with a wife who’s already been through the change of life?

The first conflict happened when the son of the bondswoman. Ishmael, scoffed at the son of promise, Isaac. The son of the flesh will forever contending with the son of the spirit. The flesh had to be removed because flesh cannot be heir of what was only possible by the spirit which came by promise or faith. The battle has been raging, flesh against spirit for a long time. We’re born of the flesh first and then we must be born of the spirit. When twice born, the conflict begins.

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of god; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.
1Co. 15:50

The only way to enter the kingdom of God is through faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)

God tested Abraham. It’s so easy to get attached to the blessings of God, not realizing that we are worshipping what was given instead of the giver of it. Abraham waited a long time to have a son and now the Lord is asking Him to sacrifice him?

Abraham brings his son to the same location which would become the place in the future where the temple of worship would be built. What we will become in the future depends upon where we are today in our worship and sacrifice. Today’s blessings are often required to be willingly sacrificed for tomorrow’s future to be guaranteed.

Abraham passes the test, because he’s willing to sacrifice what God gave him believing God could raise Isaac from the dead – the very thing God did with His own Son Jesus Christ.  Abraham had the right idea.  God raised His Son up from the dead!  Remember a life that is lived by faith is a life that willingly surrenders all, because they have placed their confidence in the One who has given us His all!
