E100 Devotion – Day 89

August 2, 2012

Reading: 2 Timothy 3:10-4:8

The greatest challenge of the Gospel then is the same challenge now. That challenge is defining truth. Souls lie in the balance off rightly divided truth. Starting with Satan himself, the assault against truth has been relentless.

Why do Satan and his children among men hate the truth? Why has such an assault been made and continued throughout the ages against the truth? Truth is the only doorway into eternal life with God and all that is good. Truth is a door that darkness cannot enter.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me.”
John 14:6

Truth is essential to life and also to light and can only be done in God.

And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.
John 3:19-21

Truth is the very foundation to freedom, and without it freedom is not possible.

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:32

Since truth can only be done in God, truth must come as God’s Spirit who leads us into all truth.

“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.”

John 15:26

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
John 16:13

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God to profit us spiritually, by totally refining and defining the Spirit-revealed truth.
