E100 Devotion – Day 68
July 12, 2012Reading: John 19:1-42
Pilate started off mocking Jesus by scourging Him, putting a crown of thorns and purple robe upon Him. After repeatedly finding no fault in Jesus, he tried to find a way to let Him go. But His accusers would have not accepted it. Pilate turned Him over to them and they crucified the spotless, innocent Lamb of God.
Jesus knew that authority and power came from above and that no one had power over Jesus unless it came from above. He also said that the greater sin was committed by the one who delivered Him to Pilate. He was speaking of Judas but also of the one who entered Judas.
Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them.
Luke 22:3-4
Jesus gave the enemy enough rope to hang both Judas and himself! Through His death on the cross Jesus Christ openly defeated Satan; He removed all of Satan’s claims upon those who believe in Jesus Christ through the payment of their sins on the cross, leaving Satan owing for his own greater sin of murdering the Son of God!
Having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
Colossians 2:14-15
Satan and his crowd had no idea that they were being outdone and totally out-maneuvered by Jesus Christ through the hidden mystery of the wisdom of God.
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
1 Corinthians 2:7-8
Jesus gave us victory over Satan, sin and death – through a death instrument!
