Reading: John 1:1-18

The apostle John tells us the genesis or origin of the New Testament and how it’s a fulfillment of the Old Testament. He goes back to the account of creation itself. In Genesis it says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” John’s Gospel starts off saying “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Everything God does begins with His Word.

In the beginning God created…
Genesis 1:1

His Word is the creator of the original physical realm and His Word is Jesus Christ. Adam sinned and failed, bringing sin into a perfect world. Jesus was the second Adam who came to put away and redeem man from sin. Jesus did what the first Adam failed to do. He took on physical form by the Word spoken over Mary. He overcame temptation by the power of the spoken Word and in so doing made the Word Flesh so that the Word could come and dwell among men.

He was the fulfillment of Words spoken, about Him, predicting His coming for thousands of years prior to His virgin birth. From the very beginning when Adam and Eve sinned God said He (the Word) would bruise the serpent’s head.

And I will put enmity between you (the serpent) and the women, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.
Genesis 3:15

The Word of God cannot be contained by print or history. It’s not like the mere words of a novel, or history book. The Word of God is alive, powerful and creative, prophetic, governmental, and it turns darkness and chaos into light and order.

The Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

Let His Word bring light and order to the darkest of your days.
