E100 Devotion – Day 44June 18, 2012
Reading: Proverbs 1:1-4:27
Wisdom doesn’t come from the head; it comes from the heart when we ponder upon God’s Word. With wisdom, we gain understanding. In other words, wisdom comes first in our heart and then gives understanding to our head.
Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live, Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
Self-centered and selfish thinkers are not able to find wisdom. Wisdom comes to those who think outwardly.
Wisdom calls aloud outside; She raises her voice in the open squares. She cries out in the chief concourses, at the opening of the gates in the city She speaks her words…
In other words, being self-centered is dumb! When we have a self-centered mindset we become complacent, thinking about our fears, enemies, inadequacies and sins. Healthy, prosperous thinking is outward-focused, not inward-focused.
God created us for a purpose – and that purpose is about blessing God and others. God’s purpose holds all the resources we need not only for God and others but for ourselves too. God’s purpose for your life is much bigger than you. When your thinking is inward it becomes contained and restrained, forever limiting your potential.
Wisdom calls us out of ourselves and brings us on a journey of personal growth and increases our self-worth. Happiness is a byproduct of wisdom which is also life-giving.
She (Wisdom) is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her.
Wisdom causes us to trust the Lord, who directs us from the heart, unlike pride cialas that comes from trusting our head. Don’t be led by the head today, be led by the heart. As we take time meditating upon God’s Word and cry out to God for correction and understanding, Wisdom pours out its’ Spirit upon us.
With wisdom comes understanding, instruction, correction and happiness, which releases the full bounty of God’s blessings upon our lives and those around us.
