E100 Devotion – Day 36June 10, 2012
Reading: 2 Samuel 11:1-12:25
…and be sure your sin will find you out.
Most of us are familiar with the infamous story of the adulterous relationship between David and Bathsheba. It was a shocker that rippled the kingdom. David not only had an affair, but his affair was with a married woman. This woman conceives a child as a result. In an effort to cover it up, David, sends for her husband to come home on leave hopint that he would be with his wife and create the impression that the child she was carrying was his.
But this noble warrior (Uriah) could not enjoy the impromptu leave as his comrades were out in the battlefield. So, in desperation, David sends him to the frontline of the battlefield to die, so his sin would be undiscovered. When he died, to come off as the noble king, he married her. But, his sin found him out.
What could have ever propelled a man who had a heart after God to do such a thing?
King David, a man after God’s own heart fell into sin, because he was not fulfilling his purpose!
It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.
