E100 Devotion – Day 17

May 22, 2012

Reading: Exodus 3:1- 4:17

The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.  10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”
Exodus 3:7, 10

Moses wasn’t exactly at the pinnacle of his success when God called him. He was on the back side of the desert hiding from the world. He had killed an Egyptian and had been hiding in obscurity. Perhaps that factored into his insecurity and hesitance in immediately accepting his calling?

We have a tendency to think God can only use people who are at the pinnacle of their success, forgetting that with God the way up often starts when things have really gone way down.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
