E100 Devotion – Day 15May 20, 2012
Reading: Genesis 45:1-46:7
Joseph again reveals as a type and shadow the coming Christ in his own life and spiritual journey.
…who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle.
The tabernacle built by Moses was a copy or type and shadow of the heavenly tabernacle. Joseph was a type and shadow on earth of the Christ of heaven, an Old Testament fore-telling of that which would come from heaven to earth.
Like Christ, Joseph was favored by his Father and sent to check on the Fathers children. They don’t receive Joseph because of their envy, jealousy and pride. Instead Josephs brothers sell him into slavery and come up with a false story of his death.
Years pass and to them Joseph is dead and gone. In their thinking, he’s a slave so he won’t last long, and is as good as dead. To their surprise Joseph is seemingly miraculously resurrected and seated at the right hand of Pharaoh’s power.
Joseph becomes the savior of his people and of the world in storing food and provision during a worldwide famine. He makes way for a new nation Israel, a chosen generation of God. And through it all Joseph models forgiveness but only after pressing his brothers to deal with their own sin by blessing them with the very same instruments of their betrayal – silver coins! It’s the goodness of God that leads us to repentance.
Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance and long suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
Joseph covers his brother’s sin from the world (Egypt) by asking them all to leave before confronting his brothers in tears instead of anger. How powerfully Joseph moved his brother’s hearts towards God through the brokenness of his own heart. Jesus did the same when asking for the forgiveness of those crucifying Him. Anger here in this instance would be the voice of a victim, but brokenness, the voice of a true Victor.
As you go about your journey toward your destiny, live as a victor, by allowing the finished work of Christ to satisfy all the debts you owe and others owe you. Live a life that releases and covers by the power of forgiveness, so that anger will not be able to make you a victim any longer.
