Day 4 – Discipleship

February 4, 2011

Dear Devoted Disciple;
Today is Day 4, in our devotional journey, and it is my heartfelt prayer that the supernatural power of God will overshadow you to become all that you were destined to be.  Today’s theme is DISCIPLESHIP.  Webster’s Dictionary defines the word Disciple as:
1: one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another.
A synonym for this word is follower –

“A Disciple is a learner under discipline.”

In this hour, let us not be a people who merely made a decision for Christ, but a people who have become His Disciples. Jesus did not die for us to make a decision, but for us to become His disciples. His followers; a people who accept His (doctrine) Word and the lifestyle it communicates and zealously share it with others.

It cost Jesus, His very life, so that you and I can have eternal life. What a powerful demonstration of love, that we have been given.  What a responsibility we now hold! To live life in a manner that reflects the magnitude of His love for us.   To live life in a manner that reflects this love and communicates it so that others can find what we have found in Him.

To be a disciple of Christ, we will have to subjugate our flesh and mind which has been in the driver’s seat too long. The Bible gives us insight as what it means to be a disciple and not just a decision maker.

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Matthew 16:24 (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray in this season that you would open our eyes to any area of our life, where we are not denying ourselves and following you. Show us where we have been reluctant to leave behind the old man and its sinful nature and ways. Holy Spirit, help us to deny our flesh and our earthly focused will.

Empower us in this season to live out our decision to follow you. Help us to be a disciplined people whose hearts are focused on being a reflection of gratitude for the love that you have demonstrated toward us but so undeserved.  Help us in these hours to be not only hearers of your Word, but doers. Help us to be lead fruitful lives that glorify Your Name. In His Precious Name we pray, AMEN.

19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them…

Matthew 26:19 (KJV)
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

Let’s live out our days as productive disciples, by becoming disciples makers for His glory.
