Day 39 – Discipleship

March 8, 2011

Dear Disciples of the Lord;
I want us to consider some of the attributes of being a disciple of the Lord, as we begin our 39th day on this journey.

37 …then saith he unto his disciples, the harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few. 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest.

Matthew 9:37-38 (ASV)

35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!

John 4:35 (NKJV)

As devoted disciples, we are people who have lifted our eyes beyond our own world and see what God sees.

We are a people of prayer and we pray not only for our own needs, but for the mission of God; the mission that none would perish.

We are a people who labor together with God to reap the harvest of souls.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

John 15:7-8 (KJV)

As devoted disciples, we are a people who abide in His presence and His Word.
We are a people of faith, trusting confidently in the finished work of the Cross and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus.

We are a people who bear much fruit.

1 And he called unto him his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.

Matthew 10:1 (ASV)

We are a people who have been given authority to set the captives free in His Name.

We are a people who bring the Good News that transforms, heals and delivers.

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

John 13:35 (KJV)

We are a people who chose to walk in love, forgiving and forbearing one another.

We are a people who have chosen not to live in strife, but to walk in grace.

13 “And all your sons will be taught of the Lord; And the well-being of your sons (disciples) will be great. 14 “In righteousness you will be established; You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear; And from terror, for it will not come near you. 15 “If anyone fiercely assails you it will not be from Me. Whoever assails you will fall because of you.

Isaiah 54:13-15 (NASB77)

We are a people who are not only blessed, but the people we influence will be blessed.

We are established in righteousness, and therefore we walk liberated and free

We are a people who are not afraid, because the greater one lives in us and has overcome the wicked one.

We are a people who are loved and protected by God.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the privilege of being a disciple.  Thank you Holy Spirit,  for being my teacher and myr guide.  I commit this day to walk in you Way. I thank you for the grace and mercy you extend that enables me to follow you.  I thank you for your Word that illuminates my pathway. I thank you for a love so great that it transform us and causes us to be a reflection of You on this earth.
In Jesus Name Amen

19 So dedicate your hearts and lives to serving the Lord your God…
