Day 18 – Discipleship
February 16, 2011Dear Faithful Disciple of the Lord:
As followers, we are not just going on a walk; we are on a journey to Christ-likeness. We are called to be an active participant in this process of transformation that takes place the moment, we made Jesus our Lord.
Being a disciple is a state of being; we are His child, loved, accepted, and received because of what HE did for us.
Being a disciple, is a state of response, because we are His, we will do as He does, speak as He does, live as He lives.
Being a disciple is the state of living life in forward motion participating in Kingdom affairs, while allowing His truth to overtake our lives and cause us to be the people we were destined to be.
This is a steady process, a process that takes place, moment, by moment day by day. There are days we feel we have made great strides and other days it incremental, but it all adds up! We are called to encourage one another in that process. The Apostle Paul encourages us to not forget or lose sight of our focus, because we are not alone, and what we do has eternal impact every day of our lives. The enemy will do his best to distract you; your flesh will do everything to satisfy itself, so we must be diligent, persistent in our following.
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)
As disciples, it is our responsibility to:
Throw off everything that hinders,
Throw off the sins that entangles us
Run with perseverance the race that was marked out for us
We accomplish this by fixing our eyes on Jesus and remembering what He did for us.
2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Heavenly Father, I pray that a new grace would rest upon your people. I pray that they would run in this season with a renewed focus and strength. I pray that they also will be a people responsible to do their part, by throwing off the sin and hindrances, and running with patience and endurance. Help us to be ever mindful that it is you at work in us, and You always finish what you start. Help us to be provokers of good instead of evil. Help us to encourage one another. Forgive us of our isolation, forgive us when we quit so easy. Forgive us when we lose sight of what you have done. I thank you that we have a cloud of witnesses in heaven watching over us and cheering us on. In Jesus Name Amen.
