Day 33 – DevotionMarch 2, 2011
Dear Household of Faith;
Today is Sunday, the first day of the week of the last week of this 40 day season of prayer and devotional series. The theme is devotion. The Apostle Paul admonished us to not be lazy in showing our devotion.
11 don’t be lazy in showing your devotion. Use your energy to serve the Lord.
Romans 12:11 (GW)
King David was fervent in his love for God and he demonstrated his love in the way he lived. David gives us some keys in demonstrating devotion.
11 Serve the Lord with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Psalms 2:11 (NLT)
2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.
Psalms 100:2 (NKJV)
Our devotion to God will be seen in the attitude we demonstrate in our serving.
- Are you serving the Lord in an attitude of respect and reverence for what He deems important?
- Are you serving him in a sense of duty or with an attitude of gladness (daily gratitude for His gracious mercy and loving kindness)?
- Are you coming into His presence with a song on your heart, communicating your love for Him?
Living a devoted life comes down to making a daily decision. Joshua was a leader, who brought the people he led to make a decision as to whom they will serve.
15 “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:15 (NASB77)
As this devotional season is coming to a close, I want to encourage you to:
19 …dedicate your hearts and lives to serving the Lord your God… 1
Chronicles 22:19 (GW)
Heavenly Father; I come before you this day to declare my devotion to You! Holy Spirit help me to live a life that demonstrates my devotion. Forgive me when my words are great, but my attitude and actions are lacking. I choose this day to align my heart to serve you with respect and the reverence due your Name. Forgive me for serving you out of duty and not from the heart. Set me free to worship you in a manner that is not inhibited by my fear, shame or the opinion of others.
Make daily decisions to choose each day whom you will serve.
