Day 19 – Devotion

February 17, 2011

Dear Devoted One:
Sunday and our theme for the day is Devotion

As we read God’s Word it’s filled with insight as to how to live a life devoted to Him.

12 So now Israel, what do you think God expects from you? Just this: Live in his presence in holy reverence, follow the road he sets out for you, love him, serve God, your God, with everything you have in you.

Deuteronomy 10:12 (MSG)

If you and I are going to live a life of devotion, we must understand that our ability to do this, will be in relationship to the level of holy reverence or respect that we have for Him; and if we have a reverence for Him it will be reflected in what we do, and how we do it and when we do it.

9 He charged them: “Do your work in the fear of God; be dependable and honest in your duties.

2 Chronicles 19:9 (MSG)

9 He gave them these orders: “You must serve faithfully and
wholeheartedly in the fear of the Lord.

2 Chronicles 19:9 (NIV)

How do we know if we are irreverent?  It can be seen in our actions.
We are being irreverent when:

  • we serve God on our own terms, living for ourselves first, forgetting we have a mission
  • we do not handle our time, talent and resources according to His Word.
  • we handle our offerings to God in an attitude of discontent or disrespect
  • we handle the presence of God lightly by coming into His presence in an unclean state, (holding unforgiveness in our heart, resentment and judgment to ourselves or others) and living in known sin and expecting God to just overlook it. [God forgives confessed sin, but He does not overlook sin]
  • we treat God as if He is just one of the guys: He is our Father, our Friend, Our Savior; But He is also LORD, Adnonai (One who is in charge and in control)

Heavenly Father, forgive me for my over familiarity.  Create in me a heart of honor. Restore to me the awe of who you are.  Forgive me when I have forgotten that all things come from You and all things are owned by You.  Forgive me when my culture has captured my heart and mind.  Forgive me for saying I love you, but still living as you are not Lord. Forgive me for having greater value in my own opinions, and reasoning’s than in your Word and Ways.  Holy Spirit forgive me when I have turned a deaf ear to your gentle leadings, your warnings that nudge me. Today, I reestablish a heart of fear, a heart of reverence for who You are and a respect for all that You have done. In Jesus Name, Amen.
