Advent Season Devotional- Day 5

December 13, 2011

Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.   And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of The Lord it shall be provided.”

Genesis 22:13-14

Another ornament on the Advent Tree is the ram. The ram represents a male lamb that has grown mature.  This ornament reminds us, that our God is our Jehovah Jireh; the One who provides for our needs in advance.

  • During the Advent season, we are reminded that we serve a God with foresight and insight.  Because Advent reminds us that before the world was ever made our God provided a Lamb; One who would become an offering for us.  This Lamb, born into the world, would grow mature and live a sinless life to satisfy the consequence of our sin and its impact upon mankind and the earth.

…knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers; 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, even the blood of Christ: 20 who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of times for your sake,

1 Peter 1:18-21

  • Christmas is the reminder that we are chosen and loved by God.  We are His children created to be a holy people, adopted as His very own through the power of the Blood of Christ.

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Ephesians 1:4-5

As you celebrate this Christmas season, celebrate the love God has demonstrated towards you, in that He sent you a “present” in advance, that cost Him all that was precious and valuable, to reveal to you just how precious and valuable you are to Him.
